Psychological & Intellectual Characteristics
Albert Einstein’s brain fascinates many people, due to the pathways of neurological basis of his extraordinary intellectual abilities. Aside from the physical features which differ from those of an average human, he also possesses some particular psychological/behavioural responses towards certain aspects of his life. These incorporate his childhood upbringing, his practice of studies, his attitude and resilience.
When most people hear of the word ‘genius’ or someone being a ‘genius’ they usually tend to relate this to that particular person’s childhood and upbringing, usually assuming the person to have been a bright and vivacious child. However, Albert Einstein was not the case. He was an extremely curious boy, but suffered late speech and verbal development as a young child. Dyslexia was also an obstacle in his early development; however Albert Einstein began to grow out of it during late primary school. As mentioned before, Albert Einstein demonstrated great curiosity in the nature of science and mathematics. It was these early traits which would soon allow him to become one of the world’s most renowned thinkers. He also established a keen interest in problem solving even before he entered school. One instance was when his father showed him a pocket compass and Einstein was fascinated at the fact that regardless of where the compass turned, the needle always pointed north. Thus, this defines his personal characteristic as well, being able to defy the odds and still maintain observation around him. However, that was merely the start.
Later on, Einstein was offered a few places in renowned and respected school institutions. One such example was that at the age of ten, Albert was accepted into the Luitpold Gymnasium, in Munich. But, this particular school emphasized on the Classical subjects of Latin and Greek over science and mathematics and therefore Einstein turned to a course of personal study outside of school.
As his life journeyed on, his pursuit of mathematics, popular science and philosophy slowly increased into a hobby, eagerly devouring books lent to him by his friend – a medical student.
Not long after, Albert Einstein had become a confident, self-assured and increasingly communicative individual.
